Oftentimes, people ask if there is a chance for them to lose weight without doing any type of workout. Well, the short answer is yes.

Today, we are going to discuss why it is possible for a person to lose weight without working out, how to make it happen, and much more.

If you’ve been to the gym to lose weight, you’re probably advised to visit a supplement store and buy a diet supplement. However, that’s not the only way to lose weight.

Isn’t Working Out the Best Way to Losing Weight?

The answer to this question is no. The only actual method of losing weight is being in a deficit. You can accomplish that goal with or without working out.

The truth is that according to studies, the same outcomes are generated regardless of how an individual produces their deficit (diet/exercise vs. diet alone).

The One Need for Losing Weight

There’s one thing you’ve got to know about losing weight. You’ve got to keep in mind that it is not caused by exercise or diet. Losing weight is caused by being in a constant caloric deficit.

Working out and diet are simply the methods people utilize to produce the deficit. Here are a couple of things you should know:

Calories Out vs. Calories In

  • Calories Out

Every single thing you do burns calories. From basic day-to-day tasks such as brushing your teeth, talking, and standing to intense workouts such as cardio and weight training. Furthermore, our body will burn a huge number of calories every day simply to keep you functioning properly and alive. This includes pumping blood, digesting food, breathing, and a lot more. They’re typically known as your “calories out” because these are the calories that your body is burning and using.

  • Calories In

Every single thing you drink and eat contains calories. Every drink and food contain some number of calories, with the exception of obvious things such as water. These calories will go on to make up your calorie intake. They’re typically known as your “calories in” because these are the calories being taken in and thus consumed by the body.

You’ll maintain your existing weight if you burn the same calories than you consume (calories out = calories in). This is referred to as the maintenance level.

On the other hand, the leftover calories that did not get burned will be stored on the body if you burn fewer calories than you consume (calories out < calories in). It will be used later as body fat. With this, you’ll gain weight and it is referred to as caloric surplus.

Meanwhile, your body will instead burn stored fat for energy if you burn more calories than you consume (calories out > calories in). It is referred to as a caloric deficit. It is the main reason why people lose weight.

Thus, if you want to lose weight, the best thing you can do is to be in a constant caloric deficit. That’s why working out is often not needed.
